AI Ethiquettes

The ethics and etiquette of everyday AI.

Everyday AI Ethics

Should you tell your boss you used AI?

A simple test for when disclosure at work is owed, and how to phrase it.

Start with your workplace policy. If there is none, a good rule is to disclose when AI did work your manager believes you did yourself, or when it touched confidential information.

When to say so

  • The output is going to a client or the public.
  • AI wrote most of it, not just polished it.
  • Accuracy matters and AI could have introduced errors.

How to phrase it

Keep it matter-of-fact: “I used an AI tool for the first draft and checked the figures against the source.” Saying how you checked it builds more trust than hiding the tool.
